It's time to touch base and talk hobby with another edition of Bunker Bustin' Frontline News!
Let's get one thing out of the way. It's a tough time for a lot of people right now, and although we're starting to hear positive news from Spain where the rate of Coronavirus infection has plummeted to a new low, we still don't know how long the current situation is going to last. So if there's a time for us to take solace in the hobby, and to appreciate the tabletop gaming community, it is now.
So before we take a look at the admittedly reduced amount of news that's out there at the moment, it's worth mentioning how many players are building new friendships and finding support bases (as well as opponents!) on Discord and on Steam via Tabletop Simulator, or just joining their mates for a painting session via Zoom. The team over at OnTableTop have opened their Discord server up, so check that out!
There are all manner of apps out there to enable us to reach out, so if you're feeling isolated or anxious, just seek out the army of friendly gamers just like you who are ready to chat, paint or play.
Now that the important issues are out of the way, let's talk shinies. Remember that adorable limited edition silver Naboo N1 Starfighter? Well, if you want a chance of securing one for your squadron, you need to register your interest ASAP! Starting next week, Fantasy Flight Games will be drawing names out and if you're amongst them, you'll be able to pilot one of these beauties in your games of X-Wing. So scramble!
Games Workshop is still shaking things up in the Warhammer 40,000 universe with Psychic Awakening. The latest update sees the Deathwatch get some new toys. Not content with variable ammunition for every occasion, the Deathwatch now get some awesome new Stratagems.
As well as bolstering the survivability of their Dreadnoughts, the Deathwatch can also add +1 to the hit rolls of their Terminator squads for a bargain price of 1 Command Point, and Intercessors can unleash a veritable storm of gunfire that enables them to hit automatically. If you run Deathwatch, you have to see this. It's going to make your day.
Games Workshop have also released the profile for Lion el'Johnson, AKA The Lion, Primarch of the Dark Angels. It's Horus Heresy-only, of course (until he eventually returns to the 41st Millennium) but crikey does he pack a punch.
So far, so in-line with other Primarchs. But the Lion has tricks up his sleeve. When his wounds are reduced, his attacks increase. Couple that with his 'Absolute Focus' which lets him hit any foe in close assault on a 4+ regardless of their WS, and a choice between slicing and dicing with the Lion Sword or driving the foe away screaming with the Wolf Blade, and he becomes a screaming grimdark lawnmower of death. If you can imagine such a thing.
Finally this week, Steamforged Games have released more information on their upcoming game Resident Evil 3. The models look gorgeous and the tiles are evocative and beautifully detailed. If you're a fan of weird monsters, zombies and hi-octane action sequences, you should check this out.
