For a moment, all you can hear is the rumbling of a tank column, treads crunching over shards of ceramite, discarded weapons and scattered skulls.
All you can see is the choking dust that swirls above the battlefield, clogging your respirator and clinging with a deathly grip to your flak armour.
Then, mercifully, the smoke clears. The tanks pass. And you finally get a look at what's left of the planet you came to save...
GOTHIC RUINOUS is our new modular terrain system, designed to bring your games of Warhammer 40,000 and Kill Team to grim life. Providing evocative line-of-sight blocking walls, jagged sections to hunker down behind, and upper floors to house your snipers, GOTHIC RUINOUS is a one-stop terrain solution.
As you can see from the website, we’ve got bundles for Kill Team, Warhammer 40,000 and separate packs to add more density to the table as required. The design team has pulled out all the stops with this one, and the walls are crammed with gothic detail, so those who lavish as much love on their terrain as they do on their models will love this set. Or, if you just want to glue it together and get it on the table, it will still look great.
I have to admit though, as soon as I saw these buildings, my creative juices started flowing. I wanted to explore this terrain, find out what happened, what these buildings used to be. So here are some optional rules for these terrain sets to add a unique flavour to your games! At the moment, these apply to those buildings that come as part of the Kill Team bundle. Next time we’ll release rules for the other buildings too!
Collapsed Habitus (part of the Kill Team bundle)
The collapsed habitus is full of discarded supplies left behind by the fleeing populace. Roll a D6 every time a model in contact with this terrain piece takes a Flesh Wound. On a 6, do not apply the Flesh Wound.
Damaged Observatrium (part of the Kill Team bundle)
Despite catastrophic damage, some of the equipment in this ruined building still works. Any models that did not move this turn and are on the upper level of this building can reroll results of 1 when shooting.
Crumbling Laboratum (part of the Kill Team bundle)
The place is strewn with broken phials hissing with mysterious and seething fluids. Any close combat fought within 1" of this ruin has a +1 Strength bonus.
Abandoned Ruin (part of the Kill Team bundle)
Who knows what went on here? Perhaps this was where some demented cult planned their outrage, or an Imperial Agent called for Exterminatus despite knowing he would die here too. If at least one friendly model is in base contact with this ruin when you decide to use a Tactic, roll a die before the Tactic is used. On a 1, the Tactic’s cost increases by 1 point. On a 6, the Tactic’s cost is reduced by 1 point. Only make this roll once per player per turn. Cost increases and decreases last until the end of the turn.
We can’t wait to see how you make use of this terrain. Once you’ve assembled it, let us see your battlefields! Remember to show off your models, too! And don't forget to stock up on tokens for your Kill Team, and check the rest of our terrain kits! Happy gaming, people!
