Virtual Reality “Is A New Frontier In Gaming”

Here at Art of War Studios, we specialise in accessories for wargaming, such as guild ball tokens. But that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate the latest technology in the gaming industry.

And with the arrival of virtual reality games at last, many people are going to very excited about immersing themselves in a totally different world.

Next month (October 13th), Sony PlayStation VR will hit the shelves, letting the lucky buyers experience this new art of gaming.

Speaking with iNews, designer Gary Napper, who is game director at Supermassive, said: “It’s a new frontier for games. You can create a place or a world that someone thinks they are really in. You get so immersed in it, you’ll go to put something down on a surface that isn’t there.”

He added: “It’s a step beyond.”

Sony is about to release the VR system for PlayStation 4, which it says will allow users to “feel like you’re actually inside the game”, giving them a ‘real’ experience to this fantasy.

Gamers will be able to purchase the headset (for a cool $399 or £307.80), which comes with an eight-game demo disc, including Driveclub VR, EVE: Valkyrie, and RIGS Mechanized Combat League.

Through the headset alone, users can experience surround sound and 3D audio, so you will feel as though the noise is coming from all around you. What’s more, the 5.7-inch OLED screen provides a real 3D feeling, while advanced technology now means you won’t have motion blur no matter how fast you move your head!

You might not be able to wait for the VR System to arrive in the next couple of weeks, but some people may simply prefer good old-fashioned tabletop games they can play with their friends and family.

In fact, more and more developers – including Steamforged Games behind Guild Ball – are turning their video games into board ones to give their fans more of what they love.
