Episode VIII Title Unveiled: The Last Jedi

Episode VIII Title Unveiled: The Last Jedi

You can’t have failed to notice that the latest installment in the Star Wars saga now has a proper title.

We won’t have to keep referring to Episode VIII anymore, because its official title has now been revealed - The Last Jedi.

Of course, social media, forums, movie sites and seemingly most of the internet was ablaze with speculation about what this means for the film’s content - although of course we know this could change following the tragic and untimely death of Carrie Fisher at the end of last year.

The Telegraph helpfully collated some of the main theories surrounding who the last Jedi could be - many obviously favour Luke Skywalker, but there are other theories that it could be Rey, or that the last Jedi is in fact plural, and that together Luke and Rey are the last Jedi.

Other more out-there theories include that Snoke is the last Jedi, or that the title symbolically refers to the “last Jedi part of Kylo Ren’s soul”.

We’re not convinced by all the theories being thrown around, but we can’t wait to see what Rian Johnson has in store for Star Wars fans around the globe when the film hits cinemas in December (that seems such a long time to wait).

Of course, many of us were heartened to hear that Lucasfilm and Disney have no intention of recreating Princess Leia in CGI in future movies, although there are reports that reshoots are on the cards, along with a substantial rewrite of Episode IX following Fisher’s death.

To stop us starting the countdown to the release of this latest Star Wars movie, we’re going to get our X Wing tokens out and play out our own intergalactic battles in a galaxy far, far away.
